How long does it take to clean the colon and what program should I opt for?

Money aside, it depends on your age, diet, present and past health, and if you are suffering from colon related symptoms. Generally the 8-day and 16-day programs are what we term maintenance detoxes, which are done by healthy individuals who want to be proactive in the health. If you have done a detox within the last year then these are also suitable. Step 3: Nutritionally rebuild yourself - -

Ways of increasing healing power

With obstacles removed, your body's regulating powers are activated to rebuild at optimum levels. Eat only fresh and simply prepared foods during the rebuilding step. Your diet should be very low in fat, with little dairy (cottage cheese and yogurt are okay), and no fried foods. Avoid alcohol, caffeine, tobacco, and sugars. Avoid meats except fish and sea foods. Include supplements and herbal aids for your specific needs. Real healing takes place at the deepest levels of your body, your cells. All cells are fed by your blood. The nutrients that reach your blood get there by the way of the colon. So a clogged, dirty colon means toxins in your blood.

  1. Cut down your intake of toxins. Become aware of what you are consuming or exposed to and minimize the intake of toxins. Eliminate as many unhealthy foods from your diet as possible, especially saturated fats from animal fats & dairy products, simple sugars, alcohol, caffeine, artificial sweeteners, processed & junk foods, carbonated beverages & any food that you may be allergic to. Drink two litres of purified water per day (Bottled water is not always free of bacteria, fungi, carcinogens or toxins.) Stay away from processed (denatured/enriched) foods & buy as much organically grown produce as possible. Organic foods contain between 2 & 8 times the nutrients of conventional foods. Try eating 50% of your diet as raw foods. Eat fruit; research continues to show that fruit contain protective compounds. If not organically grown, rather peel skin as it may often hold herbicide & pesticide, which are sprayed directly onto the fruit. Eat plenty green salads (contain digestive enzymes) but use low fat salad dressing sparingly. Nutritional supplements are often needed & are useful but they can never be a substitute for eating healthily.
  2. Decrease Bad Fats. Make sure you take in both Omega 3 & 6 oils (these are essential fatty acids). Cook only with extra-virgin Olive oil & eliminate hydrogenated fat, polyunsaturated vegetable oils (margarine & trans-fatty acids). Use butter sparingly!
  3. Exercise at least 3 days per week. Both aerobic & anaerobic exercise is beneficial to ones health. When your heart rate is increased, so your blood circulates through the body, feeding the organs with new oxygenated blood, nutrients & also removes toxins from the lymph system. POSSIBLE DIET FOR COLON DETOX

Breakfast:

  • On arising drink a glass of a hot or/ warm water and freshly squeezed lemon juice.
  • Fresh fruit
  • small bowl oats/muesli mix

Oats/Muesli breakfast mix - giving you a better start to each day!

1/3 cup Tiger or Rolled Oats from a health store with 1/4-1Tbs Linseeds then add boiling water or skim milk & allow to stand for 10 minutes. Add 1/4 cup of muesli (we use 3 different kinds of muesli to add variety), 1tsp-1Tbs digestive wheat bran (contains pectin, hemi-cellulose, lignan gums & mucilage) & add skim milk if needed. To sweeten, add some honey, molasses, nuts, fructose (not sugar) & Raisins.

Lunch:

  • Green salad, fruit or steamed vegetables; e.g., potatoes or yams, green beans, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, beets, asparagus, and cabbage or Salad (use salad dressing sparingly).
  • Tuna, chicken, lentils, beans on brown rice or whole grain bread. Soy milk, plain yoghurt and nuts can be used to increase protein intake.
  • Limit salad dressing or mayonnaise (don’t be fooled by the "low fat" on labels)

Dinner:

  • Salad
  • Rice or butternut
  • Fish (preferably fresh & not processed) or Chicken (cooked without the skin in a little olive oil) + steamed vegetables. Soup, is good as it is easier for the body to digest compared to heavier meals.

TIPS

    • Drinking lots of water and less caffeine will aid in flushing toxins from your body*
    • Replace coffee and tea with Herbal teas -- e.g. peppermint, Chinese Ggreen Ttea, Cchamomile, Ppau d'arco, or other blends.
    • If you feel hungry have a smoothie or protein/meal replacement drink. No later than 8pm.
    • Seasoning: Olive or flaxseed oils can be used to cook with or for salad dressing.
    • Try eating a salad with meals as these provide the body with digestive enzymes, which break down the food. Use herbs, yoghurt and lemon, in place of salad dressings as they are generally high in calories.


It’s not how much you eat but what you eat that determines how healthy you remain. Eating processed foods will result in mucous layers forming, these cause food to flow slower through the intestinal tract, causing blockage. This stagnant material becomes toxic to the body over time and can cause health problems if left. It is therefore important to eat a well balanced diet, which will provide your body with sustained energy levels and all the vital nutrients, fibre etc to keep you in good health. Rather eat smaller portions more often than the usual, 2-3 large portions per day. Remember that if you eat until you feel full you have eaten too much. Other tips for healthy eating include:

  • Use salt very sparingly
  • Limit foods that contain saturated fats (Animal fat, margarine)
  • Eat small portions of any sweets/deserts, those foods that contain lots of sugar but little nutrition
  • Eat at regular times of the day and chew your food well. Proper digestion begins in the mouth.

Choose pastas, whole grain breads and cereals

Avoid butter, sour cream, salad dressings, sauces and gravies.

Choose lemon or lime juice flavoured vinegar, low calorie salad dressings, spices or herbs

Avoid excessive alcohol & sugary drinks

Choose non carbonated drinks and water to help rehydrate your body

Cut down on all dairy products!

Eat more avocado pears, red peppers and tomatoes.

Step 4: Continue to rejuvenate & rebuild – repeat cleanse every 6-12 months.

Once you have completed steps 1 to 3, it is important to keep with the healthier diet & to cleanse the colon every 6-12 months. An unhealthy diet causes compactions to form in the gastrointestinal tract and symptoms will reappear shortly thereafter. Remember healing ones self the natural way can be more time consuming but then again we are concerned with treating the cause of the problem and not merely hiding symptoms!
